T20 World Cup 2021: 5 Mistakes India Should Avoid Committing

The T20 World Cup 2021 is fast approaching. Indian players have already set their sights on the big tournament. India will look to correct their recent failings of winning the ICC title. They have been one of the most consistent teams in the world during the last decade especially. India will be wary of repeating the mistakes they have previously committed in the earlier ICC tournaments.

We look at 5 such errors that India shouldn’t commit in the T20 World Cup:

#5 Not sticking to a stubborn combination

India have often been rigid when it comes to team combination in a big series. They believe in a certain template and stick to it strongly. This has cost them on many occasions notably during the WTC finals, CT final 2017, and World Cup 2019 semi-final. India will do well to avoid this glaring mistake in the T20 World Cup 2021.

#4 Not doing the basics right

India have dominated the league phases of big tournaments. But come the big match they have somehow managed to squander chances. They bowled crucial no-balls in high-pressure games letting the opposition getaway. Ravichandran Ashwin and Hardik Pandya were guilty of bowling no-balls in the 2016 T20 World Cup semifinal. India lost a great chance to win a home T20 World Cup. Jasprit Bumrah was the culprit in the 2017 Champions Trophy final when he bowled Fakhar Zaman off a no-ball. India would want to keep doing the basics right even during the big game.

#3 Top-order collapse

India’s top-order has set the stage on fire in ICC tournaments. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli have often grabbed eyeballs. But come the big game, they all have failed in unison. India will want their top-order to carry on their good form come the big game.

#2 Seizing the crunch moments

All the champion teams have the uncanny ability to seize the big moments. India though a dominant team in the league stages somehow fails to catch the right moment. They should be eager to latch onto crucial moments in a high-pressure knockout game.

#1 Calling it right at the toss

Indian fans are yet to comprehend India’s decision to field against Pakistan in the 2017 CT final. Pakistan historically known to be poor chasers were handed a lifeline. They went to score 338 runs and applied scoreboard pressure on India. India will need to be aware of not just the match conditions but also their opposition.
