The T20 World Cup 2021 was completed on November 14, 2021, with Australia finishing as the winner, defeating New Zealand by 8 wickets in the final. However, one aspect that has gotten a lot of attention is that the team batting 2nd has won 29 off 45 matchups in the league, The T20 World Cup 2021 came to a close on November 14, 2021, with Australia winning the tournament by 8 wickets against New Zealand in the final. And, in 29 of the 45 matches played in the competition, the team batting second has won, Notably, the chasing teams won in 2 semifinals and finals. The Indian cricket star, Sunil Gavaskar wants the ICC to examine why so many games have been won by the chasing side.

It’s something for the ICC Cricket Committee to get their heads around: Gavaskar

Gavaskar noted that while the dew did not play a significant influence in the conclusion of the final battle, the fact that the chasing team had an edge in the competition should be examined.

The commentators were saying that the dew factor wasn’t there today so I don’t think it really came into play that much in this game but I think it has in the previous games and maybe that is something that needs to be looked at. I feel that it is something for the ICC Cricket Committee to get their heads around and make sure that there is a level playing field for both teams,” said Gavaskar.

Sunil Gavaskar also praised Mitchell Marsh, saying the right-hander produced an outstanding performance for Australia in the final. The 72-year-old finished by saying that the New Zealand team tried to get David Warner out early but struggled to do so.

I think Mitchell Marsh played extraordinary innings, David Warner has been playing well for the last few matches. New Zealand would have wanted to get him more than Aaron Finch but they didn’t get him and here we are. They won with six (seven) balls to spare. Maxwell and Marsh at the crease, those balls could have gone for 20 runs as well,” concluded Sunil Gavaskar.
