A T20 match played near Chandigarh but streamed online as a game in Sri Lanka
A Twenty20 match played near Chandigarh but online streamed as a match in Sri Lanka has held the focus of the Anti Corruption Unit of BCCI, some cricket associations of Sri Lanka and the Punjab Police. On Friday the ‘Indian Express’ reported that the match played on 29th June held in Sawara village, just 16 km away from Chandigarh, but it was streamed online as a ‘Uva T20 League’ game in the Badulla city of Sri Lanka, which is the home of Uva Province Cricket Association.
While the officers of Punjab Police said an official inquiry is recently on to discover if a betting firm was included, the BCCI declared that it is focusing on it, just to know all the details of those involved.
The Anti-corruption chief of BCCI, Ajit Singh told PTI “Our instigation is on the process. When we will know the people involved in it, we will update our record. However, only the police have the right to take action on this matter. As an enforcement agency of BCCI, we have no authority over it.”
He added “In case it was league approved by BCCI or had any players’ participation, we could have taken actions against those players. And if it is done for betting purpose, it is a crime and police has the authority over it, we don’t have,”
The assistant secretary of the Uva Province Cricket Association of Sri Lanka, Bhagiradhan Balachandran said they had no involvement in this and somebody has done research on it.
“…no such kind of league was approved by our organization. We are doing our investigation on this matter and also doing discussion with Sri Lanka Cricket,” Bhagiradhan told PTI.
He added “The complete matter seems like a farce. In Sri Lanka, we are not the most active cricket organization, so somebody has done a lot of research on it and used our name. We have no idea regarding this matter and no players of Sri Lanka were involved in it.
