Sri Lanka Cricket Puts A Proposal In Front Of BCCI About IPL

Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic, the cricket matches around the world has been halted. The epidemic has hit worldwide and caused more than 1 million deaths due to the deadly virus. India is also suffering from the outbreak, with more than 10,000 people being tested positive, and the epidemic has so far claimed 414 deaths.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi initially announced a 21-day lockdown to address the pandemic. However, considering the tough situation, the lockdown was extended until May 3. Due to the extension of the lockdown, the viability of IPL 2020 remains unclear. The tournament landed in hot water, and there is a little chance of the league starting after the BCCI decided to postpone it for an indefinite time.

IPL 2020 has been postponed indefinitely due to coronavirus outbreak:

At such times, Sri Lanka Cricket has informed the BCCI that they are ready to host this year’s IPL 2020, which is currently unclear due to the lockdown situation. Speaking to Lankapuvath newspaper, Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva said that India is likely to look at the Sri Lankan proposal if coronavirus spreads in the neighboring country.

The BCCI and shareholders will be at a big loss if the tournament is eventually withdrawn. Therefore, it is beneficial for them to schedule a match in a different country. Also, the IPL 2020 will bring more cash flow in Sri Lanka if the tournament played in the Island nation.

“If the IPL called off, the cricket board of India and the IPL shareholders will have to lose more than $ 500 million. Therefore, it would be beneficial for them to manage the league in a different country, as they did in South Africa in 2009,” Silva said.

“If they are comfortable with this proposal, we are ready to provide all the necessary facilities under the supervision of the Sri Lankan health authorities,” he said.
