Ultimately, Cricket South Africa (CSA) will stage a unique format that will see three sides participate in a single 36-over game on 18th July after receiving permission from the South Africa government for the match to be held at SuperSport Park in Pretoria.
The match was originally scheduled on 27th June but CSA had to defer the game as the government didn’t give permission for any type of training and match-day protocols.
However, on Monday the cricketers returned to the field and the match will be held on the 102nd birth anniversary of the former president Nelson Mandela.
On Wednesday, Chief Executive of CSA, Jacques Faul said “ I can’t find any perfect day to take place this match than Nelson Mandela Day when its main objective is to raise funds for the people who have affected very badly by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The three teams are lead by Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, and AB de Villiers. They will play 12 overs each, six overs in one innings during which one team will face both the opponent teams. And in one team, eight numbers of players are there.
At the fall of the seventh wicket, the last batsman can continue his game but can make only even numbers scores like two, four, or six. The side that has the highest aggregate score will be declared as the winner.
The game is not only an opportunity for the nation’s top players to get some quality cricket time in the wake of the novel coronavirus, but also will help in raising funds for charity.
Now also, South Africa is facing a continuous rise in COVID-19 cases, with the Gauteng province, where the match is to be held, reporting a steady increase in the previous week.
