South Africa cricketers told to self-isolate on return from India tour

The South African cricket team has been asked to self-quarantine

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the team of South Africa has been asked to self-isolate for 14 days after returning from the aborted ODI India tour. The chief medical officer of Cricket South Africa, Dr. Shuaib Manjra told that the cricketers have been said to be self-quarantined and in case any symptoms show up, the test will be carried out for the deadly virus.

In a media statement, he said, “We have advised the players to maintain distance from others for minimum 14 days. According to me, it is a proper process to protect themselves, their families, friends and people surrounding them.”

“In those 14 days, if any of the players finds symptoms of coronavirus, we will investigate that properly and handle the situation with accurate protocols,” he added.

During the India tour, it is scheduled to play three ODIs which were cancelled after the opening match in Dharamsala. Now, the coronavirus patient count in India has crossed 100 with three deaths. The worldwide death count is raised to 8,000 while infected COVID19 patients are nearly 200,000.

Manjra Statement:

While talking about the back journey, Manjra said that some players wore protective masks whereas other players didn’t- that’s their choice. We maintained a distance from everyone while travelling and immunized largely from the outer world.”

Further, he said that “We have looked at the instructions made for several nations by the World Health Organisation and other convincing bodies. We give proper information about the deadly virus to the players like what the COVID19 means, what it is, what are the symptoms etc”.

He added “Also we have educated the players on how to save yourselves and take precautions against Coronavirus. Our health specialists always remain available for them even after the India tour”.
