England are scheduled to play two Tests against Sri Lanka at Galle. Even though strict efforts were enforced and the protocol of the bio-secure bubble was followed, England still were affected. The team’s spin all-rounder Moeen Ali tested positive soon after arriving in the South Asian nation. The England cricket board had put up a brave face saying they were not worried about the infections. It surely has been a testing time for cricketing nations across the globe, with series after series being under the threat of the virus. The ODI series between South Africa and England had earlier been called off owing to corona scare while many boards have decided to defer their cricketing action until normalcy resumes.

The England team who have agreed to visit Sri Lanka find themselves in a spot of bother off the field with recent covid cases reported in the hotel. But to give credit where it is due, the England Test team has performed remarkably well in the first Test. They dismissed Sri Lanka for the lowest first-innings total (135 ) at Galle. Captain Joe Root starred for England with the bat as he smashed a wonderful double-century piling up the misery on a hapless Sri Lankan team. The current Sri Lankan team looks a pale shadow of its former self as their team has struggled badly even at home. While the Lankans have fared better in their second essay having scored 150 plus runs at the cost of 2 wickets. There is a long way for them to go in this Test match and in the series.
