Australia’s iconic bowler, Pat Cummins has been picked as the Test captain before the Ashes in 2021-22. This action was made following Tim Paine’s choice to take a prolonged break from cricket following the sexting incident with a female colleague in 2017. On the other hand, former India player Laxman Sivaramakrishnan believes Cummins will need to do a lot of homework before assuming the role. Here is Pat Cummins Choice As AUS Test Captain.

His deputy has been chosen with Steve Smith. He makes his comeback to lead after being banned from doing so due to the sandpaper affair in 2018. As per Sivaramakrishnan, hardly many bowlers have the chance to captain the team, and Smith would be a huge support to Cummins in guiding the team.
Cummins has to plan very well so a lot of homework needs to be done: Sivaramakrishnan
“You want bowlers as captains. They are a rare breed. Not too many bowlers get the honor of captaining their country. But Pat Cummins will have to do a lot of homework. He’s got a very good deputy in Steve Smith although there has been some controversy over him with what happened in South Africa Steve Smith will certainly help him,” said Sivaramakrishnan in an Interaction.
The Ashes series is set to begin on December 8, with the 1st Test likely to be contested at the Gabba. When questioned about Cummins’ workload, the former India cricketer stated that Cummins will have to deliver short but efficient spells. He also believes that the pacer would need to strategize properly in order to gain benefits for the squad.
“It’s going to be summer in Australia so we might see him bowling short but effective spells, that’s the most important thing. He’s also got to keep a tab of his record against certain players. He will have to identify the batters and probably try to bring himself into the attack when they are at the crease. He has to plan very well so a lot of homework needs to be done to be able to manage his workload and also become a successful captain,” the former cricketer added.
