Similarities Between Steve Smith And Kane Williamson, According To Smith

The cricket world has star players who are famous for their outstanding performances. They have created records in the world of cricket.

Though no player can be compared with another because every player is unique, a record similar to that of another player then unintentionally becomes a talking point and people start discussing and comparing players with similar records.

Australia is hosting New Zealand in a tri-match Test series with the first game scheduled to be played in Perth, followed by a day-night contest in Melbourne and the final clash in Sydney.

Australian cricketer Steve Smith narrated the similarities between him and the New Zealand batsman Kane Willamson. Mentioning Kane Williamson as a ‘quality player’ before the Test series between Australia and England which is starting on Thursday, Smith praised the willingness of Williamson to play late and clarified parallels between his batting style and the Kiwi player.

“Terrific work ethic, a good eye and plenty of time,” Smith was quoted as saying by ICC. “I think he has loads of time against quick bowling. He is a quality player and hopefully, we can keep him quiet this series.”

“I think we hold the bat reasonably similarly,” he said. “He has got quite a closed grip. I like that in Test cricket personally. It just helps to play the ball a bit later and I think (Williamson) plays it a bit later than anybody else in the world … He plays the ball incredibly late, he is patient.”

New Zealand feels that it needs to rapidly re-adapt to day-night complexities to have any hope of recording their maiden win against Australia in the pink-ball Test.

Kiwis last played a day-night Test nearly two years ago in Auckland against England, while last week in Adelaide, Aussies thrashed Pakistan by an innings and 48 runs under lights.

After tearing an abdominal muscle in last month’s first Test against England, the visitors received some good news that all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme was match fit.

Bowling spearhead Trent Boult, who too missed the second Test against England due to injury, was able to recover enough from a side strain to make it to Australia.

Together with fellow fast bowlers Tim Southee and Neil Wanger, Boult is a potential match-winner on a Perth pitch that is expected to offer pace and bounce.
