Siddhesh Lad Recalls His IPL Debut In 2019 Against KXIP

Siddhesh Lad is known as the ‘crisis man’ for Mumbai team in Ranji Trophy. When it comes to playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for his home franchise, it took him five years to make his debut. Lad was selected by Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of the 2015 season and only played his first match against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) last year.

This talented Mumbai batsman made it a memorable day out of his first debut. Siddhesh Lad is more is more of a middle order batsmen. He had hit his first IPL ball with a huge six off Ankit Rajput and then followed it up with four runs. However, he was unable to score big and bowled by Mohammad Shami.

Recalling the moment he made his IPL debut, the 27-year-old, in an Instagram live session, said he was at home with his family. He got a call tonight saying he was playing and replacing Captain Rohit Sharma. The Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper injured his finger during a training session and was rested for the game only as a precautionary measure with the World Cup to be played shortly after the IPL.

Mahela had told me to go home and chill, says Siddhesh Lad

“Mahela told me to go home and stay cool because I wasn’t going to play. Suddenly I got a call at 11.30 pm that I was playing the next day. That was a goosebumps moment for me. I can’t sleep after that, ”says Siddesh Lad. However, the MI released the lad with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the IPL 2020, making it the last match for the four-time champions.

The cricketer also lamented the fact that the cash-rich league has suspended until further notice. He felt that he had an excellent opportunity to play this year with the new team and also hoped that some window opens up for the IPL to go ahead later in the year.
