Shane Warne Criticizes England Selectors For Refusing To Include Jonny Bairstow In The Test Arena

Shane Warne has slammed England’s officials for not selecting Jonny Bairstow for the early June home Test series against New Zealand. The wicketkeeper-batsman from Yorkshire is a unique case. The excellent batter is a frequent part of the white-ball side, but he doesn’t get many chances in the red-ball game. let’s discuss Shane Warne Criticizes England Selectors

During an interview, Warne was asked about the England selectors’ decision to rest and choose some players for a specific series. The scenario in Bairstow’s case is ridiculous, to say the least. Given the underperforming and inexperienced middle-order, Bairstow should make the XI based on his 74 Test appearances and 4197 runs in the format. The Yorkshire player’s 34.1 average, on the other hand, may have upset the selectors.

No English hitter has been ready to capture opportunities and secure their position in Test XI, according to Warne. The Perfect representation of the English batting unit’s inconsistency in Tests will be the series lost against the New Zealand series with 1-0 in June at Edgbaston in the second Test.

‘I don’t think England were playing aggressive enough cricket’: Shane Warne

“No one has grabbed that opportunity,” said Warne. “Why isn’t Jonny Bairstow playing Test cricket? He’s actually performed extremely well. I look at England and I think they’re worried about their tactics, I don’t think they’re playing aggressive enough cricket, they’re so worried about the performances of everyone, they’re resting people,” Warne said in a conversation with Mark Waugh and Michael Vaughan.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan backed Warne’s sentiments on the Bairstow situation, defining the cricketer’s previous several months. Bairstow was sent back to England to recover after performing well in the Test series in Sri Lanka. He had to participate in the IPL, so he needed the break. His form decreased when he returned to the India Test series. Vaughan also revealed why England’s selectors didn’t pick Bairstow for the New Zealand series.

“On Jonny Bairstow, Jonny Bairstow had his Test place back against Sri Lanka. He played okay in those two games. He then went home to walk his dog. Got his place back after 18 months, he did okay, he’s in the team, then he went back home and missed the first two Tests against India and came back and went nought, nought, nought and now he’s out the side because he went to the IPL and they weren’t going to pick anybody for the New Zealand series that went to the IPL,” Vaughan added.
