Shakib Al Hasan Tests Negative For COVID To Play First Sri Lanka Test

Shakib Al Hasan News: Star all-rounder for Bangladesh who had previously screened positive for COVID a few days ago but has now come back with negative findings is now again in the hunt to participate in the first Test versus Sri Lanka.

After arriving in the United States on May 9, Shakib was provided a virus test, and the results showed that he was infected with the virus. As a result, the board mandated that he be isolated. Meanwhile, there is still a possibility that he may take part in the first test, which will begin on May 15.

The 11th of May was the day that Shakib was supposed to join the team in Chattogram; however, with positive results and was required to go through self-isolation. An official for the team has reportedly affirmed that Shakib will travel to Chattogram, and if he is to be selected for the playing XI, the all-rounder will be required to go through additional medical testing. However, Bangladesh will be reassured to have him back in the team perhaps if it is just for the 2nd Test, as he’s been their most productive player across all formats for many years at this point.

Shakib Al Hasan News: Bangladesh is eager to have Shakib in the ‘XI’

In December 2021, Shakib last competed for Bangladesh in the longest format versus Pakistan. Unfortunately, he was unable to participate in Bangladesh’s tour of New Zealand because of certain obligations. Shakib participated in the One-Day Internationals during the South Africa tour; however, he was forced to withdraw from the tour prior to the Tests due to a family member’s illness.

Mehidy Hasan, who was affected during the most recent Dhaka Premier League, will not be available for the first Test for Bangladesh, and Taskin Ahmed is still not fully recovered from the shoulder ailment he received earlier this year. This is one of the many injury issues that Bangladesh has in advance of the 1st Test. Bangladesh would be expecting that Shakib helps make it to the XI, which also will add a great deal of experience with both the bat and ball and Shoriful Islam will be present, assuming his fitness.

The first of the 2 Test matches that will be played involving Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will take place at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. The 2nd Test match will take place at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
