Second Phase Of IPL 2021 To Be Scheduled In UAE, Confirmed By BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla

IPL 2021 had to be postponed indefinitely due to the cases of COVID inside the bio-secure bubble with the likes of Varun Chakravarthy, Amit Mishra and others contacted with the virus. Australian cricketers were banned from travelling back to the country and staying in the Maldives with their government barring all entries, including their own citizens. So there was no special behaviour for Aussie players. IPL 2021 phase 2 moved to UAE, confirmed by BCCI.

IPL To Be Continued In The UAE

IPL 2021 Phase 2 moved to UAE, confirmed by BCCI. The Indian Premier League (IPL) remaining games will resume in the United Arab Emirates later this year around September 2021. BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla confirmed the news on Saturday shortly after the board’s Special General Assembly (AGS).

While the BCCI didn’t announce the start date, sources said that the tournament will have a tentative start date of September 19-20. The official confirmation will come later as the board is yet to iron out various aspects of the logistics. The final dates and schedule will be announced soon.

Speaking to ANI, a source in the know of developments in the meeting said the BCCI will go ahead with organising the IPL in the UAE to have a 25-day window for the completion of the 14th edition of the league.

“There have been talks with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and they are happy to host the remaining IPL in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi like last time,” the source said.

“There is still close to four and a half months and we are confident things will change in that space of time concerning COVID-19. The BCCI will request the ICC for time till the end of June or the start of July to take a final call on the matter,” the source explained.

With the tournament to be played again in UAE, there are chances that few foreign players won’t be joining the tournament in fear of COVID-19.

BCCI Asks ICC For Time To Host T20 World Cup In India

Meanwhile, the board has requested time from the International Cricket Council (ICC) to explore all possibilities of hosting the next T20 World Cup in India. After cases of COVID disrupted the IPL, it was more or less confirmed that the global ICC event would be played out in the United Arab Emirates, which was kept as a backup option.
