Sanjay Manjrekar Picks His No 4 Batsman and All-rounder For T20 World Cup

Iyer Had A Fabulous New Zealand Tour:

Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar who is an active Twitter user interacted with cricket fans on Monday. The former batsman who was recently excluded from commentary panel by the BCCI answered questions from the users on the social networking site.

During his interaction, a user asked him whom he would choose for the 4th position and for the all-rounder slot for the upcoming T20 world cup.

“Your Number 4 Indian batsman and all-rounder selection for T20WC?” the Twitter user asked. In reply, Manjrekar said that it would be Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya.

“Shreyas and Hardik respectively,” was the answer from him.  Shreyas Iyer had an amazing New Zealand tour where he scored 217 runs in 3 ODI matches averaging nearly 71 at a strike rate of 95.59. Though India lost the series 3-0, Iyer emerged as the highest scorer.

He played the T20 series also equally good where he made 153 runs in 5 innings at an average of 51 and strike rate 131.90, which India won 5-0. His brilliant performances in the recent matches might have brought him Manjrekar’s backing.

Pandya Absent From Matches Due To Injury:

Hardik Pandya who also got the support of the former batsman has been away from the cricketing action, since his surgery in October.  His last match was in September last year against South Africa when it toured India.

Though he got an opportunity in the team to play against South Africa in a three-match ODI series, it was called off due to coronavirus scare.

Touted as the next Kapil Dev, Pandya has a huge strike rate of 115.57 and 147.61 in ODIs and T20s respectively.

His wickets tally in ODIs and T20s is 54 and 38 respectively. However, Pandya did not do well in the last year’s world cup where there were huge expectations on the young all-rounder.

ICC T20 world cup is set to commence from October 18th and will last until November 15th.
