Bangar Has Signed A Two-year Contract With Star Sports:
Former Indian cricketer and batting coach Sanjay Bangar has declined the offer of Bangladesh batting consultant for Tests, citing personal and professional commitments.
Yesterday Nizamuddin Chowdary chief executive of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) told reporters that the board was discussing with Sanjay Bangar for being the batting consultant for their team especially in red-ball cricket, but nothing was finalized.
Bangar was offered the coaching job eight weeks back but he did not accept it as he has signed a two -year contract with Star Sports in the meantime.
Bangar said about the opportunity, “They offered me the position eight weeks ago. But in the interim, I finalized my contract with Star which gave me the opportunity to balance out my personal and professional commitments. However, I look forward to working with BCB in the future.”
Bangar worked with the Indian team as a batting coach from 2014 to September 2019. After that, he was replaced by Vikram Rathour. West Indies series in India after the world cup was his last stint as coach.
In-fact Bangar was the only one whose contract was not extended after the world cup, whereas head coach Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar got their contracts renewed.
Bangar has been involved in commentating since he was relieved from the coaching job. He played in 12 Tests and 15 ODIs for India from 2001 to 2004.
Neil McKenziein Not Interested To Coach In All Three Formats:
Coming to Bangladesh cricket team, it is now coached in batting by former South Africa batsman Neil McKenzie in the shorter formats of the game, the ODIs, and T20s. Though the BCB tried to convince McKenziein to expand his role to Tests, he showed disinterest in coaching all the three formats.
However, he will take care of Test batting also, until a new consultant is appointed.
