Former India fast bowler Sreesanth, who was banned for life for match-fixing before being reprieved by the Supreme Court, appeared to have got a new life on Tuesday as he was named among the 26 probables of Kerala for the T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy starting January 10. It is the first time that Sreesanth is back in official cricket after serving a seven-year ban.

S Sreesanth is making a comeback after a long 7-year span, he was banned in 2013 because of match fixing scandal where he was arrested by Delhi Police during IPL. S Sreesanth was banned along with Rajasthan Royals teammates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan. BCCI considered the length of S Sreesanth’s punishment and the ban was lifted on September 13, 2020.
Former India pacer S Sreesanth on Tuesday moved closer to a return to competitive cricket after being named in a 26-strong probables list by Kerala for the upcoming Syed Musthaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament.
The T20 tournament is scheduled to begin on January 2. His ban ended in September this year. The pacer, who last represented India in World Cup 2011, will take part in a preparatory camp to be held here from December 20 to 30, sources said. Sreesanth might get to play alongside the likes of Sanju Samson, Sachin Baby and Basil Thampi.
For the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, teams will join their bio-security bubbles on January 2. BCCI secretary Jay Shah mentioned that the tournament will end on January 31. The details of the venues aren’t yet known though.
“The BCCI will subsequently seek further feedback from the members on organising further domestic tournament/tournaments and a decision will be taken after the group stage of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The members are requested to factor a subsequent tournament in their planning and make arrangements accordingly,” Jay Shah wrote in a letter to the state bodies.
“We are waiting for details from the Board as to what’s to be done next. We are awaiting clarity on the bio-bubbles and how they want us to go about it,” one of the officials said.
