Ross Taylor expressed his desire in playing the next world cup and said that his fitness, form, and level of motivation at the end of next year will decide that he will be able to manage his place in the squad or not.
If he will play the first Test match against India on 21st Feb at Basin Reserve, then the 35-year-old will become the first cricketer in the world to complete 100 games across three international formats.
” 2023 World Cup hasn’t ruled out by me but still I think that it’s a long way away. I want to get to next year first and foremost – the Twenty20 World Cup and then the home summer-and after that I’ll have a better idea of how I am placed at the end of next summer,” – Ross Taylor.
He even added – ” Whether I am good enough or I am fit enough, and whether I am worth for my spot in the side. In case I can tick all those points, then of course 2023 is an option”.
Ross Taylor – I’m Not Going To Put Myself Under Too Much Pressure
Although he has an intense desire to continue, he won’t put himself in so much pressure.
He also said that ” Always you want to do good and the game is more important than anything else. At the same time, you can put extra pressure on yourself. Just you have to enjoy it and take the game as another game. Surely, I can play in whatever way”.
In the New Zealand Test 100-club, Taylor will join Stephen Fleming, Daniel Vettori, and Brendon McCullum and he credited his coach late Martin Crowe for motivating him.
” He (Crowe) had seen something I never saw in myself. I was so happy to play one Test; playing 100 Tests is great,” Taylor said.
” There is still a game to play and contribute to, but at the same time you have to consider the success and the fact that a lot of people have helped you out along the way.”
