Rohit Sharma Likely To Be Available For Home Series Against West Indies

Team India’s limited-overs captain, Rohit Sharma missed the series versus South Africa owing to a hamstring strain, however, the recent reports suggest that he is rehabilitating well. Sharma is said to be nearing full fitness and might play in a six-match limited-overs series versus the West Indies. Rohit, who was named full-time limited-overs captain and India’s backup in whites, got injured during net practice ahead of the South African series.

Injuries have always been a partner of the Mumbai hitter, and he has been sidelined several games as a result. According to BCCI norms, each and every individual must-attend for fitness testing at NCA before being permitted to participate. The testing method is the sole way for the selection panel to find about their availability.

Rohit should be the bridge before BCCI is confident about the next young India captain

“Rohit’s rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) is going pretty well. He is expected to be okay for the West Indies series. It’s still close to three weeks from now before the first ODI is played in Ahmedabad on February 6,” said a BCCI source.

Knowing that Virat Kohli has officially stepped down as India’s Test skipper, it is even more crucial for Rohit to remain fit for the forthcoming series. The BCCI is now considering its next choice to lead India in whites. Despite KL Rahul may be a better choice in terms of future potential and age, Rohit’s achievements throughout forms have been exceptional. And, in the future, he might be in a position to become India’s captain in all 3 formats. For the time being, KL will captain the men in blue in ODIs versus South Africa.

“Rohit Sharma should be the bridge before BCCI is confident about the next young India captain that they want the team to lead for at least five years. This ICC World Test Championship cycle should be about giving it to an experienced hand rather than someone, whose leadership credentials aren’t proof enough,” a senior BCCI official added.
