On Sunday the skipper, Rohit Sharma, became the most capped T20I player for India while appearing in the first T20I at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in New Delhi against Bangladesh. In the bargain, he overtook the record of MS Dhoni, who played in 98 T20Is, while India Rohit Sharma has now represented India in 99 T20Is.
In his T20I career, Sharma scored 2452 runs, i.e., the highest among all players. The opener has scored four centuries and 17 half-centuries to date. The batting supremacy of
Rohit at the top makes him one of the game’s shortest format’s most dangerous batsmen.
The skipper didn’t get off to a good start on Sunday as he left for just nine runs but broke Virat Kohli’s record, who scored 2450 runs out of 72 matches. In terms of scoring most runs in T20Is, Martin Guptil scored the third highest. From 80 T20Is, the Kiwi scored 2326 runs.
During the 2007 inaugurated World T20I, Rohit made his T20I debut against England. Initially, he used to play at No. 7, but later in his career, he moved to open the slot. The 32-year-old needs to play one more match to break the record of Shahid Afridi who has featured in 99 ODI games. He still needs to play 13 more matches, however, to break the record of Shoaib Malik (111 T20Is).
In the T20I series, Rohit leads Team India squad against Bangladesh in the absence of the rested Virat Kohli.
