Reserve Day For Men’s T20 World Cup Semis Can Be Reconsidered

Cricket Australia Would Welcome The Idea of Having Reserve Days:

Cricket Australia would gladly receive the concept of having reserve days for the semi-finals of Men’s T20 World Cup 2020. This tournament is scheduled to be held in the month of October-November in Sydney. It is planned to be held the first Semi-final match on 11th November in Sydney and the second semi-final match on 12th November in Adelaide. On 15th November, the final match will be held in Melbourne and a reserve day is already there for the final.

The discussion was started in the wake of the failure that encompassed the women’s T20 tournament held earlier this year. The first semi-final match between England and India was washed out because of no reserve days. Likewise, the second semi-final match between Australia and South Africa saw a shortened affair. Both the semi-final matches are held at SCG (Sydney Cricket Ground) and cricketers expressed their dissatisfaction with not having reserve days.

According to the rules & regulations of International Cricket Council (ICC), there are no reserve days until the final match but Cricket Australia, as well as the organizing committee of the tournament, are confident of this matter when the cricket committee of ICC meets to discuss the playing situations for the tournament later this year. During the meeting, the decision will be approved by the Chief Executive Committee (CEC) of ICC later this year.

The rules and regulations of the tournament can be changed in case any of the board members of ICC do press for it at the time of the CEC meeting, but such a delayed change playing situation seldom have gone through. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cricket Australia, Kevin Roberts will attend the CEC meeting of ICC and he stated that there is a condition where playing situations for a tournament can be changed, while also surrendering the lower probability of the reversal in roles.

The men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to start in Australia on 24th October taking on Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
