Gautam Gambhir Contributes Towards PM Relief Funds:
Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian opener, is among a host of cricketers who has made generous contributions to various relief funds as the country continues to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Gambhir donated his salary as a Member of Parliament (MP) for two years and also pledged to transfer Rs 1 crore from his MPLAD fund to the Prime Minister’s relief fund.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) acknowledged Gambhir’s contribution and praised him in the present testing times for his humanitarian gesture. The gesture of the Bengaluru franchise left Gambhir, who captained RCB’s arch-rival Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL, touched by that and reacted to their tweet with high regards.
In his tweet, Gambhir, who played in the premier T20 tournament for KKR and Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils), said he hated losing against RCB but won over by their acknowledgment. “@RCBTweets I hated losing to you guys, but today you have won me over by this acknowledgment, Thanks a lot,” Gambhir wrote in a reply to RCB.
Gambhir led his side to some unforgettable wins against RCB in the Indian Premier League against Kolkata Knight Riders and a match between the two sides is always a fascinating one for their fans. Gambhir led KKR in 2012 and 2014 to two title-wins, respectively. Gambhir left KKR before the 2018 season and returned to Delhi where he only managed to play six games and scored 84 runs.
Gambhir is a Member of Parliament at the moment and has always come forward to help those in need. Though he has made a generous personal donation, Gambhir’s foundation has also been doing relief work to help the poor and underprivileged battle the pandemic. His foundation is also helping the families of some of the Pulwama martyrs who lost their lives in last year’s deadly terrorist attack.
