Rashid Latif: Multan Sultans should be the winner of PSL 2020

Rashid Latif’s opinion for the fifth edition of the PSL:

Because of the Coronavirus pandemic, the fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) had to be canceled. For the semi-finals, Multan Sultans, Lahore Qalandars, Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings had qualified. But just before the beginning of the first semi-final match, the PSL had to be canceled with immediate effect.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had shortened the league earlier discarding the idea of the playoffs and rescheduled the final match to 18th March from 22nd March. But after knowing that Alex Hales, player of Karachi Kings had symptoms of COVID-19, the PCB had to call off the tournament.

Since then, the heavy discussion is going on if the tournament should be played on later dates or the Multan Sultans, who is leading in the tournament should be announced as the winners even the PCB is looking for a window to reschedule the league in this year.

The former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif said that as per the rules of the PSL, in case any match doesn’t happen because of any type of interruption, which is out of control, then the teams with the leading points will go to the finals.

Like this, if the final match also doesn’t happen because of any type of out of control situation, the top points holding team should be the winner. In this case, the topper, Multan Sultan should be crowned the champions after playing 10 matches.

Rashid Lalit took his Twitter to handle to represent the same and also tagged the four teams, who are qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament.

Multan Sultans won six matches among 10 matches:

Undoubtedly, Multan Sultan was the best team in this edition of PSL 2020, which is played in Pakistan entirely for the first time. Among the 10 matches, Multan Sultan won 6 matches and lost two times and the other two matches were washed out. They ended up with 14 points and qualified for the finals for the first time in five editions. But due to the Coronavirus outbreak, their chance of winning the PSL trophy was gone.
