Ranking: India’s ODI World Cup Jerseys

Indian ODI World Cup jerseys: The first few editions of the world were devoid of any glitz and glamour. Teams sported the same jerseys across both Tests and ODIs. The ODI World Cup that started in 1975 was a 60-overs affair. It continued to be in the same vein for the next two editions as well. The 1987 World Cup was shortened to 50 overs per side. But it was in 1992 when the World Cup really came into its own.

The game was played with white ball under lights and for the first time teams sported coloured jerseys. As we look ahead to the upcoming 2023 World Cup, we look back at Indian jerseys over different editions of the ODI World Cup.

Ranked – Indian ODI World Cup jerseys:

#8 1996 World Cup Team India Jersey

India was one of the hosting nations for the 1996 ODI World Cup. There was excitement as the nation felt that India had a good chance of bringing home the cup. Sachin Tendulkar was already a global superstar and India’s chances hinged mainly on him. India sported a light blue jersey in the 1996 World Cup. There was a heavy tinge of yellow to the jersey as the collar and stripes across the chest bore a yellowish tinge. It wasn’t the greatest of jerseys.

#7 1999 World Cup Team India Jersey

It was the first World Cup that was played within three years of the previous one. The World Cup returned to England and the warm sweaters and full hand sleeves became a common sight. There was the presence of yellow once again. The collar too had pronounced yellow albeit with a strong border. In a World Cup that saw teams sporting their best jerseys India was quiet away from the mark.

#6 2007 World Cup Team India Jersey

It was the first and the only year where two World Cups were played. The ODI World Cup was played in the first half of the year while the T20 World Cup was played in September 2007. India sported similar jerseys for both World Cups. The jersey had a light minimalistic blue to it with the tricolour to the right side. India suffered a first-round exit in the ODI World Cup while they became the Inaugural champions of the T20 World Cup.

#5 2019 World Cup Team India Jersey

India’s jersey for this edition was an interesting mix of light and dark blue. The side sported the emblem on the right with two stars on top of it indicating India’s ODI World Cup wins. There was a dark blue tinge at the center with a lighter shade around the shoulder area. It also had a single strip of orange on both sides of the jersey. India once again lost out in the semis.

#4 2015 World Cup Team India Jersey

The team took the athletic jersey route in the 2015 World Cup edition. There were vertical stripes across the jersey with the BCCI logo on the right and the tournament name on the left. India was unbeaten up until the semis where they played the co-hosts Australia. They lost the semifinal and India couldn’t defend their crown.

#3 2003 World Cup Team India Jersey

It remains one of the most emotional World Cups for an Indian fan. India reached the finals of the World Cup and lost to Australia. Incidentally, India lost just two games, and both times to the eventual champions Australia. The side had a strong run right through. India’s jersey had a big connection with the nation. It sported a light blue jersey with black patches on the shoulder.

#2 1992 World Cup Team India Jersey

India’s jersey was arguably the best in the first-ever edition of the World Cup which was played with coloured jerseys. The jersey remains the darkest shade of blue that the side has sported so far. India played with this jersey even recently during the 2020-21 period. The jersey had multi-coloured stripes on the back.

#1 2011 World Cup Team India Jersey

It had to top this list as this World Cup remains special for obvious reasons. India became the first side to win a World Cup at home. The side sported a lighter shade of blue with orange mentions on the track pants. Both sides of the jersey had a tricolour on them. The jersey became synonymous with India’s magnificent win. It remains a fan favourite even after 12 years.
