Rajeev Shukla Says Organisers Will Go By Government’s Decision On IPL

Former IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla has said that based on the prevailing conditions in the country due to the outbreak of coronavirus it is impossible to hold IPL from April 15th.

This year’s IPL which was scheduled to begin from March 29th was postponed to April 15th in the wake of the corona pandemic.

But there is little chance of the mega cricket event taking place from the revised date as there are still many new cases of corona getting reported daily.

There are also speculations that the lockdown the government imposed in the country which is supposed to end on April 15th might get extended for a few more days.

IPL From April 15th Seems Not Possible: Rajiv Shukla

Shukla sounded negative about the occurrence of the IPL in the immediate future as he noted that he does not see any preparation for the mega event and the board’s priority now is fighting the deadly disease. He added that they will go by the government’s decision as he was hearing that the lockdown might continue.

“I don’t see any preparation. Our priority is to fight coronavirus and save people. See it will all depend on the government what decision they will take. We will go by the government decision. We are hearing that lockdown may extend in this situation if you think IPL can happen by April 15 so it seems not possible,” Shukla told ANI.

“Travel Ban On Foreign Players Still In Place”

When enquired about foreign players’ participation in the lucrative tournament he replied that at the moment no match was possible and there was a travel ban on foreigners in the country.

The government of India has on March 11th suspended all the visas of foreign players as a precautionary measure to stop the spread of corona.

The number of corona cases now has climbed to 5,865 according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

20 people have died so far from the deadly infection.
