Quinton de Kock Scored First IPL Century Vs RCB In Bengaluru

Delhi Daredevils wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock registered his maiden century against RCB:

On this day in 2016, in the 11th match of the ninth edition of the tournament at Chinnaswamy Stadium, the then Delhi Daredevils wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock recorded his maiden century against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

On that day, Daredevils captain Zaheer Khan won the toss and welcomed the hosts to bat, captain Virat Kohli (79) and batsman AB de Villiers (55) posted a formidable 191/5 in 20 overs on the basis of individual half-centuries.

De Kock observing Shreyas Iyer (0) opened the batting but Iyer went out in the first over himself without scoring.

Having scored a boundary off Sreenath Aravind on the first ball he played, de Kock didn’t let go the momentum as he hit three boundaries off RCB all-rounder Parvez Rasool in the next over to nullify Kohli’s strategy of adding an off-spinner in the powerplay against a foreign left-hand batsman.

De Kock Didn’t Slow Down After Completing His Half-Century:

De Kock had raced to score 34 * (16) by the end of the powerplay and held DD in the chase despite losing two wickets. Afterward de Kock and Karun Nair (54*) stitched a match-winning 134-run partnership as the visitors secured the chase in the final over.

De Kock, then 23, managed to find gaps on the off-side against RCB spinner. Having hit a six off Royal Challengers seamer Harshal Patel in the ninth over, De Kock hit a four off his South African colleague David Wiese in the next over to overcome the 50-run mark.

Keeping up with the necessary run rate, de Kock did not slow down until his half-century was finished. He hit a single off Wise on the third delivery of the 18th over to score his maiden IPL century. With the support of 15 fours and three sixes, de Kock had managed 108 (51) and was unequivocally declared the ‘Man of the Match.’
