Quinton de Kock Announces Test Retirement With Immediate Effect

South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock has announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect, in an unexpected turn of events. He was scheduled to take paternity leave and will miss the 2nd and 3rd Tests versus India. However, the CSA revealed in a press statement that the left-hander had opted to retire from the Test format.

He was an important member of the inexperienced Test side and will undoubtedly be missed in the near future. De Kock made 34 and 21 runs in the 2 innings in SA’s Centurion Test versus India, where South Africa was defeated by 113 runs on Thursday (December 30). Ultimately, the lefty finishes his Test career with 3300 runs in 54 matches (91 innings) at an avg of 38.82, with 6 centuries and 22 half-centuries. He also captained South Africa in a few Tests.

I want to have time with my family: Quinton de Kock

Quinton de Kock stated in the statement that it’s not an easy choice to make for him. He does, therefore, want to spend more time with his wife Sasha, and the couple is expecting their 1st child. “This is not a decision that I have come to very easily”.

“I have taken a lot of time to think about what my future looks like and what needs to take priority in my life now that Sasha and I are about to welcome our first child into this world and look to grow our family beyond that. My family is everything to me and I want to have the time and space to be able to be with them during this new and exciting chapter of our lives,” the 29-year-old said in a statement.
