Prithvi Shaw Or Shubman Gill – Who Will Be The Opener Of The 2nd Test?

The 2nd test India vs New Zealand at Christchurch:

If the World Test Championship campaign required a serious wake-up call, then the previous Wellington Test match acted as the perfect alarm bell for India. In the opening test match against New Zealand, India was outplayed in all formats to surrender to 10 wicket-loss: the first defeat of India in the World Test Championship.

Now the Indian team has traveled to Christchurch, the most successful venue of New Zealand at home. As the test match is starting on February 29.

However, the preparations of India for the 2nd test got off the serious situation when Prithvi Shaw, former India national under-19 cricket team skipper missed the training session on Thursday because of his left foot swelling.

From reports, it is indicated that for a debut in the test, Shubman Gill was in line, but coach Ravi Shastri confirmed who will partner Mayank Agarwal, the second opener in the 2nd test.

Prithvi Shaw or Shubman Gill?

India coach Ravi Shastri addressed different problems of the team in a pre-match press conference. Virtually he confirmed that Shubman Gill would have to wait for some time for his debut as Prithvi Shaw had retrieved from his injury.

When Ravi Shastri was asked who would play between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, he replied that this thing will be discussed tomorrow in the morning.

After that, the Indian coach reminded of Ravichandran Ashwin’s failing with the bat in the previous test where he managed to score only 4 runs.

Further, Shastri said that “There is no doubt that Ashwin is a fantastic bowler, but now we have to choose the right side for the right situations. He has bowled very impressively over the years, if any concern, he would be dissatisfied with his batting performance. I think he will get better”.

Jasprit Bumrah:

Apart from Prithvi and Ashwin, there were certain questions regarding Jasprit Bumrah: who has not been in his form since his return from a back injury.

After asking about Bumrah, Shastri replied that “Bumrah is very near to get a five-for or a six-for. Of course, it is going to happen tomorrow. Similarly, with Mohammad Shami also, so there is nothing to worry about.”
