India kept fighting but have been unable to overcome Sri Lanka in the T20I series, in which they lost 1-2. India’s Shikhar Dhawan-led squad struggled to form as a unit after being expected to support a different lineup. Here is Danish Kaneria About Dhawan Captaincy.
Danish Kaneria About Dhawan Captaincy
The batting collapsed terribly in the last T20I encounter, as Wanindu Hasaranga took 4-wickets and restricted India to 81 runs. Due to the fact that 8 of Team India’s players were unavailable for choice, they were forced to field only 6 bowlers.
Given the length of India’s beak, former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria believes Dhawan should have bowled first rather than batting first on a slow and difficult pitch in Colombo. The 40-year-old went on to say that instead of establishing a benchmark, the Indian batsmen would have been better off understanding what they were up against.
There is an advantage for India if bowled first to restrict the opposition: Danish Kaneria
Every one of India’s batters struggled toward spinners, making the work too difficult for the top order in the later part. On his YouTube channel, he discussed how Dhawan’s choice to bat first was a mistake.
“When you have Bhuvneshwar Kumar batting at No.6, why didn’t you win the toss and opt to bowl first? The wicket at Premadasa helps spinners and you could have tried to bowl first and restrict Sri Lanka to under a hundred.”
“When you have such a long bowling line-up, there is an advantage if you bowl first and restrict the opposition. It was poor captaincy from Dhawan,” Danish Kaneria asserted.
Indian hitters, in general, are excellent spinners and are regarded as among the finest in the world. However, the Indian batsmen failed to get going with Hasaranga’s leg-spin.
He just decided to give up 9 runs while taking 4-important wickets, putting India to be behind. Kaneria also said that the Indian hitters helped Hasaranga to bowl to his advantage.
