Coronavirus has spread throughout the world like a wildfire. The global pandemic has caused a shared sense of urgency. Health care facilities are declining in some places to provide for everyone. At the time of writing this, the total number of cases in India was 1,071. The death toll from the deadly virus was 27, and 100 successfully recovered.
Until April 15, the Government of India announced a 21-day lockdown. The lockdown situation has created a massive problem for poor people living in the country. In fact, due to the lack of transport facilities, it was tough to send the necessary facilities to every part of the country. During this desperate period, many famous cricketers and celebrities stepped up to do their part. Indian women spinner Poonam Yadav has also decided to contribute to the country.
This is a tough time for the country Poonam Yadav
A leg spinner from Uttar Pradesh has donated Rs 2 lakh for the fight against coronavirus. The Prime Minister’s Civil Aid and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-Cares Fund) and the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Suffering Relief Fund each cost Rs. 1 lakh.
“In this tough time for the country, the only way we can help people is because we can’t get out of our house. We can’t allow anyone to come in,” Poonam said in an interview with Women’s Crikson. “I’ve been thinking about donation for a long time. Originally I was going to pay yesterday (March 29), but the limit on Google Pay (online transaction platform) is Rs 50,000. I tried a different platform today, and it finally happened,” he added.
Poonam Yadav was the driving force behind India’s victory at the recently concluded ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia. The leg-spinner bowled superbly throughout the tournament, leading her team to the final, where they lost to the hosts. She took ten wickets in five innings. She was the leading wicket-taker for India in the tournament.
Apart from her, Bengaluru-based young sportswoman Richa Ghosh also donated Rs 1 lakh to the West Bengal State Emergency Relief Fund. Another companion of Poonam, Nujat Parveen, donated a secret amount to the PM-CARES Fund. Recently, the Cricket Board of India Cricket also paid Rs 51 crore to the PM-CARES fund.
