Pollock: Sachin Told Me It Was Hard To Play Short-Pitch Balls In Australia

Pollock: Sachin Understands His Game Very Well

Former South African captain and fast bowler Shaun Pollock has claimed that batting great Sachin Tendulkar told him once that he found playing short-pitch balls in Australia difficult but successfully managed by hitting them over the wicket-keeper and in slips.

Pollock said these words speaking in a Sky Sports podcast.  He said,” It was how well he understood his game and how he would adjust. He talked to me once about going to Australia and understanding he couldn’t take on the short-pitched deliveries anymore, so he would ramp the ball over the wicketkeeper and slip.”

“We Did Not Know How To Get Him Out”

Pollock who took 393 wickets in ODIs and 421 wickets in Tests praised Tendulkar that it was very difficult to get him out and his team would just wait for him to make a mistake as they did not have any plan.

“There were times, especially in the subcontinent, where you thought, ‘I’m not sure we can knock this guy over’. We were hoping he would make a mistake, rather than had a genuine plan,” said Pollock, who made nearly three thousand and five hundred runs in his career in both the formats and retired in 2008.

Sachin Tendulkar who is known as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of the game holds many records in batting which might be very hard for other batsmen to break.

He is also known as the complete batsman without any noticeable weakness. He is efficient on both front foot and back foot, comfortable against spin and fast bowling. Even former Australian world cup winning captain Michael Clarke has recently named him as the most technically accomplished batsman.

Tendulkar accumulated 34,357 international runs — 18,426 runs in ODIs and 15,921 runs in Tests by the end of his bright career. He also is the only batsman to have scored 100 international centuries (51 Tests and 49 ODIs).
