Playing National Anthem Before Every Game Should Be The Norm In The World’s Number One League – Ness Wadia

The co-owner of IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab, Ness Wadia, has written an email to Sourav Ganguly who is the president of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), in which he proposed playing the national anthem before every IPL game in the 2020 edition.

Usually, national anthems are played before international games. But according to Wadia, playing the national anthem before the game should be the norm in the world’s number one league (IPL). Along with this proposal, Wadia praised the BCCI for scrapping the opening ceremony of the Indian Premier League.

Ness Wadia said “It is an excellent move. It is high time that we don’t have an opening ceremony. I have always wondered about the value and necessity of hosting an opening ceremony. One thing which they (BCCI) should do is to have the national anthem before each game given that it is the Indian Premier League,”

Wadia also added “I had written to the BCCI earlier also and now I have written to Mr. Sourav Ganguly. And I think it is still played in movie theatres.” The national anthem is also played in the Indian Premier League (football) and Pro-Kabaddi League.

Ness Wadia has recently confirmed that off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and Kings XI Punjab parted ways amicably. Kings XI Punjab failed to reach the playoffs of IPL for the past 2 years under the captaincy of Ravichandran Ashwin.
