Picking Sachin Tendulkar’s Brain Might Help Virat Kohli: Sunil Gavaskar

India conquered Test cricket in 2021, upon clinching matches in London (twice – Lord’s and Oval), Brisbane, and Centurion. The squad is also placed top in Tests in the ICC Rankings, earning 124 rating points. The Indian bowling assault is presently one of the strongest in the world, having won multiple matches in recent years. Here is all about Why Gavaskar wants Kohli to call Sachin to pick his brain.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli struggled to hunt for his 71st international hundred continues. Since 2019, he has not hit a century in any form. In the Centurion Test, Kohli scored 35 and 18 runs in 2 innings, respectively, and was caught trying to deal with deliveries outside of the off-stump across both occasions.

Gavaskar wants Kohli to call Sachin to pick his brain

Sunil Gavaskar remarked during a post-match interview, that Kohli should approach Sachin Tendulkar. Gavaskar recalled India’s 2003-04 tour of Australia, where the ‘God of Cricket’ scored a double hundred in the first innings of the Sydney Test. Sachin also hit a half-century in the 2nd innings, helping the Indian side to a draw at 1-1 level in the series.

Gavaskar noted that similar to Kohli, Sachin had the desire to attack outside the off-stump deliveries that he managed to overcome in Sydney.

“Going back to Kohli, it would be fantastic if he calls Sachin Tendulkar up to wish him a happy new year. And during that talk, if he can maybe just check with him how he curbed his offside shots in the year 2003-04 against Australia,” Gavaskar said.

Gavaskar also recalled Tendulkar being caught in the covers or behind the wicket, so he opted not to play in the covers zone in the Sydney Test. Sachin scored a double hundred owing to his exceptional shot-making technique.

“He was getting out caught in the covers or caught behind, and then in that fourth Test match, he decided he’s not going to play in the covers. He was only playing maybe mid-off or straighter and on the on the side; and what did he end up with? 241 not out in the first innings and 60-something not out (60*) in the second innings.”

“Just maybe wishing him a happy new year and maybe just picking him brains, asking him how he did it, might help him as well,” he added.
