Philander Fined, Handed Demerit Point In Farewell Test

Vernon Philander, the fast bowler of South Africa, was fined 15 percent of his match fee on Sunday by the International Cricket Council (ICC). In his last Test, he was handed with one demerit point also.

During the second day of the fourth Test, which is ongoing, when Philander dismissed Jos Buttler of England, he celebrated aggressively for which he was penalized.

“The all-rounder of South Africa Vernon Philander was fined 15 percent from his match fee of the ICC conduct code as he breached level 1 at the fourth Test’s second day at the Wanderers against England,” ICC said.

“Article 2.5 of ICC Conduct Code was breached by Philander. The Conduct Code for Player and Players Support Personnel which in actions or gestures could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter. “

“Including this, in the disciplinary record of Philander, there is one demerit point which is added to the disciplinary record as it was his first offense in 24 months.”

Before the series started, Philander announced by it would be his last international cricket series. He picked up the wickets of Zac Crawley and on Day 2 of Buttler.

Earlier in the series, Buttler launched a foul-mouthed barrage against Philander following his dismissal in the second Test. The ICC had then punished the England wicketkeeper for the same.
