Phil Simmons’ Job Safe Despite Calls For Dismissal

Phil Simmons’ job is safe:

In a statement, Cricket West Indies (CWI) said that West Indies’ head coach Phil Simmons‘s job is totally safe despite the chief of Barbados association is demanding his removal as soon as possible after attending a funeral in England.

On Friday (26-07-2020), he went to attend his father-in-law’s funeral. After attending the funeral, he is self-isolating in the hotel room at Old Trafford.

On Sunday (28-07-2020), the Cricket West Indies (CWI) had said that Trinidadian Simmons had taken permission before the start of the tour but Conde Riley, the chief of Barbados Cricket Association said that this kind of behavior had been reckless and inconsiderate to go to a funeral in this critical situation of COVID-19 pandemic.

On Wednesday (01-07-2020), President of Cricket West Indies, Ricky Skerritt said “ I want to give assurance to all the West Indies cricket fans that still Phil Simmons has the complete backing of Cricket West Indies. It doesn’t matter what has been said.”

Ricky Skerritt Statement:

“When all of the things are said and done, the job of Phil is not endangered by that letter in any way. Nine months before, he has gone through a very tough recruitment procedure and proved himself as the best man we could have got for the position. Still, he is the best man.”

Simmons has gone through COVID-19 tests already two times and can join the team if he tests negative in the third time COVID-19 test on Wednesday.

He added that it is a very crucial time and it is very much important for him to stand with his family and his family responsibility would not give any kind of bad impact on the preparations of the squad for the three-Test series starting on Wednesday on Southampton.

He said “This won’t disturb us. This will make us stronger while going into the test series.”
