PCB CEO Wasim Khan said that they won’t accept moving the Asia Cup:
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) objects on vacating the given slot to host the Asia Cup to organize the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the month of September, the Asia Cup is planned to take place and according to the report, now the BCCI is planning to organize the big event from September 26th.
The outbreak of COVID-19 has destroyed the whole cricketing schedules. There is a lot of confusion regarding hosting this year’s Asia Cup, IPL, and the T20 World Cup. Regarding this, PCB said that a domestic league is not more important than the Asia Cup.
Previously, the IPL was planned to begin on 29th March but had to delay for an indefinite period because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, BCCI can only take the decision on IPL after the ICC takes a decision on the T20 World Cup.
Our stance is clear: PCB
A source of PCB was quoted “How PCB can compromise on hosting T20 Asia Cup due to a domestic league. It has no doubt that T20 Asia Cup will be organized as per the pre-schedule and also as the decision taken by the board members discussed in the previous teleconference. It is very much important for the PCB’s finance as well as for the improvement of board members of ACC.”
Wasim Khan, CEO of PCB said “Our motto is very much clear. Asia Cup is all set to host in September and in case it wouldn’t organize then it is only because of the health safety issues. We never accept that Asia Cup should be postponed due to IPL.”
Also, according to the source, informally Sri Lanka has been selected to host the Asia Cup. Even the SLC has announced that they have started preparation for hosting the Asia Cup. And now they are preparing to take permissions to host the T20 tournament from the government.
