India is to play a warm-up versus Select County XI from July 20 at Chester-le-Street prior to the five-game Test Series against England. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Pant’s illness was likely caused by a doctor visit on 5 and 6 July.
“Pant had gone to a dentist on July 5 and 6 and could have picked the virus from the clinic. On July 7, he had been vaccinated,” a source quoted.
The matchup between Germany and England in Euro 2020 was watched by Pant at the Wembley Stadium on June 29. The lefty also uploaded images on his Instagram account about his outing.
Pant Is On His Way To Recovery: Jay Shah
“Pant, who had not stayed in the team hotel during the break period, tested positive on July 8. He is asymptomatic and currently undergoing self-isolation at the place where he reported positive”.
“He is being closely monitored by the BCCI medical team and is on his way to recovery. He will be able to join the squad in Durham after returning two negative RT-PCR tests,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said.
Pant’s support came from BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, who said it’s “practically impossible” to wear masks all the time. “We have seen Euro Championship and Wimbledon in England. Rules have changed (with the crowd being allowed inside venues). They were on leave and it’s physically impossible to wear masks all the time,” Ganguly said.
Pant was an important member of the Indian team through formats, particularly in January following his exploits in the Gabba Test against Australia. Later, Jofra Archer and James Anderson also performed opposite, which brought him plenty of respect for his fearlessness.
In the first stage of the IPL- 2021, he also led the Delhi Capitals (DC), now at top of the points table.
