Deepak Chahar’s undefeated 69 against Sri Lanka in the second One-Day International played in Colombo has made him a Social media sensation. With 3 wickets remained, the right-handed batsman fought until the very last moment to bring the ‘Men in Blue’ home. Considering he did while his team was down to 193 for 7 tells much about the batter’s confidence in his skills. Here is Kaneria About Pakistani Batsmen.
Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria appreciated Chahar’s heroic efforts and advised Pakistani batsmen to take inspiration from the right-hand batsman’s exceptional counterattack innings. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who stayed with Chahar to achieve the 276 marks, was a big help to the 28-year-old.
Kaneria About Pakistani Batsmen
In a video posted to his Social media account, the cricketer-turned-expert discussed Chahar’s performance, which he batted at 8th place.
“Full credit to Deepak Chahar. Pakistan’s batsmen should learn from him. Deepak Chahar took the game till the very end. He stood at the wicket, rotated the strike smartly, and picked up the odd boundary here and there. Chahar had that key partnership with Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the end. Although Kumar only scored 19, it was as good as a 50 on the day.”
Kaneria went on to say that the 28-year-old may have drawn inspiration from great player MS Dhoni, who was a firm believer in the idea of going deep in the play.
“Thanks to Chahar and Kumar, India won the series and now we could see some changes in the final ODI. But today (Tuesday) was Chahar’s day. He first claimed two wickets and then batted very sensibly. He did not play any unnecessary shots and applied MS Dhoni’s philosophy of taking the game till the end if wickets fall. It was an outstanding performance by India.”
‘We all know Chahar can bat, he has done it many times’: Bhuvi
Bhuvneshwar Kumar stated why Chahar was put ahead of him and credited Rahul Dravid for bringing the 28-year-old in because of his outstanding batting abilities.
“Look, he’s played with our coach Rahul Dravid before for India ‘A’ and some other series’ and he scored there as well. So, he (Dravid) knew he (Chahar) could bat and he can hit a few balls. So that was his call and the way he batted proved him right. We all know he can bat, he has done it many times. It wasn’t a tough call but it’s just good to see the way he scored runs,” Bhuvneshwar Kumar said at the post-match press conference.
