Organizers Confident Of Men’s T20 World Cup Success In Australia

The World Cup Might Face Competition From Australian Football And Rugby League

The organizers of the T20 world cup have expressed confidence that the event which is scheduled to be held during October and November this year will be a success.

The cricket event might face competition for viewers from Australian rules football and rugby league due to the impact of the corona pandemic on sports events.

The tournament which would be played from October-18th to November 15th was put into a slot in Australia’s sports calendar between the end of the football season and the beginning of summer cricket, to get maximum viewers’ attention.

But both the Australian Football League (AFL) and National Rugby League (NRL) seasons were postponed due to the ongoing corona health crisis and might clash with the world cup when they start.

However, Nick Hockley CEO of the organizing committee believes that the world cup is in a strong position and can face competition from both the sports as he mentioned that the world cup will not return to the country again for 10 or 20 years.

He said to the Australian Associated Press, “In the event, they have extended seasons…We still think the World Cup is a really strong proposition that might not come here again for 10 or 20 years.”

He asserted that cricket is Australia’s national sport and that people love the world cup, and they are happy with the ticket sales.

He added, “People love a World Cup. Cricket is Australia’s national sport … and T20 is the format that appeals to the broadest possible demographic. We’re very encouraged already by the take up in terms of ticket sales.”

Organizers Say No Change Yet In World Cup Dates

The Women’s world cup hosted by Australia which ended on March 8th where Australia beat India in finals was a big hit with cricket fans and the organizers hope that they would repeat the same success with the men’s version.

He is confident that the tournament would go ahead as planned despite the ongoing corona threat.
