The International Cricket Council has launched 100% Cricket, a 12-month initiative to encourage women’s cricket and build on the momentum of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020.
The event 100% Cricket by ICC would enable the budding women cricketers to showcase their skills, athletic brilliance, passion, and the intensity of the players, which every cricketing fan love about.
It will certainly challenge the stereotypes and help the game in discovering and developing the ‘Shores’ of the game. The excitement would be certainly double, as we gear up for ICC women’s cricket world cup 2021, which is going to be held in New Zealand.
The initiative, which launched ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup final at the MCG on International Women’s Day, reflects the commitment of the entire sport to promote the growth of women game and build on the record-breaking momentum that has been generated over the last two weeks.
ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney who championed the campaign’s mission, said: “I think we’re at an inflection point for the women’s game. We have made significant progress in our efforts to grow and develop the game over the last three years, and have publicly stated our long-term commitment to achieving equality through men’s and women’s cricket.
“We want to build a sustainable base for women’s cricket in the long term and build a product that fans want to watch, that kids want to take on, that advertisers and broadcasters want to be part of. Increases in prize money, streaming all games, the creation of a U19 Women’s Cricket World Cup, the size of our ambition as we strive for a world record attendance for women’s sport at the MCG final on International Women’s Day and now 100 percent Cricket are all part of this bigger plan” added Sawhney
Talking further on the project, ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney said, “As a part of this, we’re going to work with Members on behalf of the ICC # ID, with the goal to add 1 million new women and girls to the game in the next 12 months. But everyone can #IDeclare to do their bit whether it is to mentor a woman in the game, play cricket in the backyard with their daughters or to attend a women’s match. Use the hashtag and tell us your declaration. Together we can all make a difference and grow the game.”
