New Richards-Botham Trophy For Future England-West Indies Tests

When West Indies and England will meet in a Test series, a new Richards-Botham trophy will be up as both the sides pay honor to two of their legendary cricket players. The title tributes West Indies great Viv Richards, who made over 8,500 runs by playing 121 number of Tests, and Ian Botham was an outstanding England all-rounder, who score over 5000 runs as well as claimed 383 wickets by playing 102 Test matches.

The England and Wales Cricket Board said that the third Test match between West Indies and England will begin on Friday (24-07-2020) and it will be the last time, both the squads play for the Wisden Trophy. Viv Richards has average scores all over his career was 62.36 against team England with the help of eight centuries. He said that it was really a great honor to share the new trophy gratitude with Botham.

He added “I am very happy to receive this kind of highly high-status award in respect of what I was capable to achieve as a cricket player. When went to England and play for Somerset, one of the first persons I met was Ian Botham, later we become very close friends. We both are friends for life.”

Ian Botham claimed 61 numbers of wickets against team West Indies at an average rate of 35. At that time, West Indies had full command in the 1970s and 80s. Botham said “playing against a strong team like West Indies team is one of the most difficult Tests in cricket, and it is a great honor for this trophy to tolerate our names. I hope future tournaments in between England and West Indies will be just exciting as the series we have been enjoying this summer.”

In the year 1963, the Wisden Trophy was introduced to honor the 100th edition of the Wisden Cricketer’s Almanack, and it will be put on display at Lord’s in the Museum of Marylebone Cricket Club.
