Prithvi Shaw Helped Mumbai Win Vijay Hazare Trophy With His 39 Ball Quick Knock
Mumbai captain Prithvi Shaw continued with his red hot form on Sunday as he became the first player to breach the 800-run mark in a single edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Shaw achieved the feat during his 73-run knock against Uttar Pradesh in the ongoing final of Vijay Hazare Trophy at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Shaw who had already got passed Mayank Agarwal’s tour of most runs in one season of the tournament during the semi-final against Karnataka, added yet another record to his name by becoming the first cricketer to score more than 800 runs in a single edition of Vijay Hazare Trophy – the domestic one-day tournament of India.
Uttar Pradesh rode on Madhav Kaushik’s unbeaten hundred to set a competitive target of 313 runs for Mumbai. Kaushik and Akshdeep Nath came up with heroic knocks of 158 and 55 respectively as Uttar Pradesh registered 312/4 in the fifty overs. Kaushik’s unbeaten 158-run knock is the highest individual score of any batsman in the finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
“I feel everyone contributed and it was not an individual effort. Because of this unity, I think the trophy goes to everybody involved. Tare batted so well according to the situation. I have been captaining since I was young. It helps my batting performance as well. Things were a bit difficult (after the Australia series) but I wanted to fill those blanks and come back stronger” Prithvi said
Mumbai’s journey in this edition will not be complete without the extra-ordinary story of Prithvi Shaw. He took over the captaincy after Shreyas Iyer left the camp to join Team India. Shaw grabbed the opportunity and skyrocketed from there.
Earlier this week, Shaw broke Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli’s record of the highest individual score by an Indian batsman in a List-A chase. Shaw also said that it is his never-say-die attitude that has helped him return to form. Mumbai successfully chased 313 runs with ease in 41.3 overs and their comes another trophy for Mumbai.
