The Indian team were sensational on their tour to Australia when they managed to win a series without many of their key players. But the likes of Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma were found batting for the country on off-field matters on Wednesday. Twitter has been generating a lot of traction related to the framer’s protests in the country. Many global celebrities lent support to the farmers’ protests in India. The most noticeable among them was Rihanna’s tweet which went viral wherein she asked why isn’t the protest being talked about.

The tweet from the global pop sensation sparked a debate on the matter. No sooner than Rihanna’s tweet caught attention than environmentalist Greta Thunberg also took to Twitter pledging her support on the matter. Plenty of other celebrities like Mia Khalifa, Jay Sean also asked took to Twitter asking for the conflict to be resolved soon.

The Ministry of External Affairs took stock of the situation and wanted to control the perceived damage on Twitter. Its IT wing started two hashtags #IndiaAgainstPropaganda and #IndiaTogether. There were calls made to popular Bollywood celebrities and cricketers to voice their support for a united India. The ministry urged the celebs to started tweeting using the same hashtags.

Responding to the calls from the Ministry, celebrated cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Anil Kumble among several cricketing personalities took to Twitter to stand for the country. They reinstated that farmers are important for the country and an amicable solution is the need of the hour. But many fans wondered if Mahendra Singh Dhoni will also express his opinion on the matter. Dhoni isn’t a very active person on social media and is yet to tweet on the matter. Such is Dhoni’s popularity that his not posting too became a much talked about topic.

The opinions have been polarising as far as the farmers’ protests are concerned. Many believe that the matter should be resolved internally and amicably between the farmers and the government. While there are those too who believe that the protesting farmers are being treated unfairly by the centre.
