McCullum Believes Sport Will Rise Again Amid Corona Threat

” We Are Being Challenged Medically And Economically”:

Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum expressed hope that the situation in sports will get better again in the light of coronavirus pandemic.

McCullum, who played 101 Tests, 260 ODIs and 71 T20Is, said the present health crisis has challenged our generation medically and economically but he is hopeful that we will come out of it.

The fear of the deadly virus has disrupted the field of sports all across the globe with almost all the major events suspended or postponed or being played in the absence of crowds.

The former attacking batsman who retired in 2016 from international cricket said on his Twitter account, “Thoughts with all those around the world right now. The sport will rise again in time but for now, it’s about everyone staying safe and finding a way through. Medically and economically we are being challenged more than our generation has ever been before but we will find a way.”

NZC Cancels All Domestic Cricket Activities

New Zealand cricket matches have also been the casualties of coronavirus. The NZC (New Zealand Cricket) has suspended all the domestic cricket competitions due to the fear of spreading of the dreadful infection.

NZC  has also called off the last two rounds of the domestic Plunket Shield competition as a precaution measure against the spread of COVID-19, on March 16th and Wellington Firebirds were declared winners.

It released a statement in this regard which reads, “This decision follows our most recent medical advice and recognizes our obligations towards the New Zealand cricket family and the wider public interest.”

A few days back New Zealand tour of Australia where they had to play 3 ODIs was cut short after the first match which was won by Australia, and the remaining two matches were canceled due to the outbreak.

Following this tour, the Australians were to tour New Zealand where they were supposed to play a three T20 matches series, which were also called off.
