Martin Guptill Doubtful For NZ vs IND Clash Due To Injury

On October 31, 2021, the New Zealand cricket team will face the Indian squad in their 2nd match of the 2021 T20 World Cup. And indeed the Kiwis may have to play without their outstanding opening batsman Martin Guptill in this crucial match versus Virat Kohli’s India.

During Pakistan’s clash against New Zealand, Guptill had a toe injury. On October 26, 2021, Haris Rauf hit the right-handed batter on the toe.

Martin Guptill looked in a little bit of discomfort at the end of the game: Gary Stead

Guptill appeared to be in pain at the end of the game, according to New Zealand Head Coach Gary Stead,  it might need up to 48 hours to see just how things progress.

We’ll see how he scrubs up overnight. He looked in a little bit of discomfort at the end of the game and it might take 24 to 48 hours to see how he goes,” said Gary Stead about Guptill’s injury.

Martin Guptill is New Zealand’s most successful batter in the T20I format. Guptill is the Kiwis’ leading run-scorer in T20I cricket, with 2956 runs at an avg of 32.13 and a batting average of 136.34.

In the T20I version of the game, the right-handed hitting star has also amassed two hundreds & 17 fifties. New Zealand did not have a great start to their play in the T20 World Cup in 2021.

The Kiwis were defeated by Pakistan in their first encounter of the 2021 T20 World Cup. Despite  Batting first, the Black Caps could only produce a total of 134/8. And, with 5 wickets and 1.2 overs to play, Pakistan attacked the score set by Kane Williamson’s team.

Martin Guptill batted at the top of the lineup for New Zealand versus Pakistan, scoring a 20-ball 17. During his spell in the middle, he hit three fours.
