After serving a one-year ban, Steve Smith made a dream comeback to international cricket. However, there is one thing that has overtaken his skills and grabbed everyone’s eyeballs – his unusual batting technique.
While many batsmen stick to the usual batting technique, Steve Smith has found a new format all-together to deal with the ball pitched outside off stump. His technique has now found a new follower in Marnus Labuschagne. After scoring his maiden test century in the series opener against Pakistan, Marnus Labuschagne adopted Steve Smith’s batting format to leave the ball outside off stump in the second Test. Posting a video, Cricket Australia wrote: “The lightsaber leave is out in full force here”.

However, Labuschagne copying Smith’s technique has received mixed reactions on Twitter. Some fans criticized him for copying Smith’s technique while others praised his ability to adopt a new technique.

Won't be surprised if Smith and Labuschagne are hired to teach the actors in the next Star Wars movie how to use the lightsaber. 😂
