Longer Boundaries Are Difficult For The Indians: Mhambrey

The R Premadasa Stadium’s longer margins(boundaries) have made scoring 4’s and 6’s a little more difficult for the Indians. Paras Mhambrey, the Indian team’s bowling coach, stated that the Indian players are much more prepared to play in the Indian Premier League, which has shorter boundaries. Mhambrey about India team

“It is challenging for batsmen also, boundaries are not easy. You need to work around with singles and doubles, there is a lot of running between the wickets. It is just the way of adapting that is important,” said the former India fast bowler who represented India in 2- Tests and 3- ODIs.

On Wednesday evening, India only scored 7 fours, 5 of which came from Shikhar Dhawan’s bat. Devdutt Padikkal, a young Indian batsman, had one 4 and 1 six in 29 runs.

You have a lot of boundaries and sixes going on: Mhambrey

The Indian batters struck 12 boundaries in the first T20I, 9 of which came off the bats of Shikhar Dhawan (4) and Suryakumar Yadav (5). In the Indian innings, Yadav smashed 2 sixes.

“It (longer boundaries) is not something you are used to playing in India. Generally, especially in IPL, you have seen shorter boundaries. You have a lot of boundaries and sixes going on,” added Mhambrey.

Trying to play with such lengthy boundaries, according to the 49-year-old retired right-arm pace bowler, is a potential for youngsters to learn to fly the ball.

“Obviously it is an opportunity for youngsters and spinners as well. It kind of gives an opportunity to toss the ball a little more, since one part is a little longer than the other. Good to see that.”

The 2nd T20I which was held on July 28th in Colombo was won by the Lankans which leveled the series to (1-1). The Final T20I is supposed to be commenced on July 29th, it’s really exciting to watch the final match of the series as both were stood parallel.

Team India will have to face the series with many youngsters as the COVID disturbed the Team lineup.
