Lockie Ferguson, the fast bowler of New Zealand is not expecting to be picked in the Test squad against India on Monday. Last year, he had lost his debut due to a calf injury while playing against Australia. But, now he has recovered from his injury.
In the first test match held in Perth, he broke down after bowling just 11 overs. After that, he has been working hard on his way and get fitted to participate in the Auckland domestic cricket.
He expects to play the domestic one-day final of New Zealand on Sunday and pointed out that the limited-overs series against Australia held in March was a fantastic target for his return to international cricket.
” I have a target to get back as soon as possible, but this year there are so many upcoming matches,” he told media in Auckland on Friday.
” We are having so many white-ball stuff and also I am going off from the IPL, as with a calf injury, we must be careful enough, where there is a high risk of re-injury.
” Sunday’s match is my priority and then I will play some first-class cricket.”
Despite making his test debut last December, behind the proven trio of Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Neil Wagner and then Matt Henry, Ferguson is realistically fifth in the pecking order.
Boult Broke His Hand Earlier This Week
In Australia, Trent Boult broke his hand earlier this week but in Mt. Maunganui he trained with the national side before they had a 3-0 sweep against India in the one-day series. He should play the first test, which begins on 21st Feb in Wellington.
” The New Zealand test side isn’t an easy side to make, “added Ferguson. ” it is not easy to make any of the sides, but for so long they have been excellent, and especially for the fast-bowling attack, for a long time that has been settled. “
He also admitted that he was still motivated to play the longest form of the game, despite being considered more of a limited-overs bowler on the international level.
” It’s been my dream to play test cricket since I started playing professional cricket because I believe that’s the biggest challenge,” he said.
” About playing one-day games, I am very excited and also for the T20 of New Zealand, Every moment is being enjoyed by me, but for me playing red-ball is a big goal.
” I just got through 11 overs on that day in Perth, and it was frustrating.
” But it’s a kind of those things that when you bowl fast, sometimes injuries can be occured”.
