Glenn Maxwell is an enigma. He first caught the attention of the world when he was acquired by Mumbai Indians in 2013 IPL auctions for INR 5.3 crores. He was the most expensive Glenn Maxwell and Chris Morris players in the auction this year. Maxwell hardly got a game with MI and was released by MI immediately ahead of 2014.

He had a stellar season with Kings XI Punjab in 2014. Maxwell smashed 552 runs and was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of IPL 2014. But since then he has always had mixed to disappointing IPL’s. He was purchased by Delhi Daredevils in 2018 for INR 9 crores. He didn’t play IPL 2019 and was released by the Delhi franchise. KXIP bought him for INR 10.75 crores in IPL 2020. He had the worst season with them in IPL 2020 wherein he failed to hit a single six throughout the tournament.

Maxwell goes big at 2021 IPL auctions:

Maxwell unsurprisingly was released by Punjab Kings ahead of IPL 2021 auctions. But Maxwell being the X-factor he is was still expected to go for huge money in the IPL 2021 auctions. To add to it, he was looking in tremendous touch playing for Australia. Hence when Maxwell’s name popped up in the auctions, teams were interested to acquire him. Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore engaged in a high octane clash for him. RCB eventually won the battle by bagging Maxwell for INR 14.25 crores. He was the 3rd most expensive player in the 2021 IPL auctions.

Chris Morris just like Maxwell started his IPL career in 2013. He was bought by CSK for INR 3.32 crores. Morris didn’t participate in the 2014 season while he was picked up by Rajasthan Royals in 2015 for INR 1.4 crores. But it was only in 2016 when he received a windfall salary. The Delhi Daredevils bought Morris in IPL 2016 for INR 7 crores in the auction. He even played his best IPL innings in 2016 IPL when he smashed 82 not out of 32 balls. He was part of the Delhi squad for 4 years from 2016 to 2019. But after having a couple of middling seasons, Morris was subsequently released for the IPL 2020 auction.

Royal Challengers Bangalore bid big for Morris and bagged him for INR 10 crores. Morris bowled at an economy rate of 6.63 and took 11 wickets. He filled in his role of bowling at the death beautifully. Hence it came as a surprise that Morris was released by RCB ahead of IPL 2021 auctions.

Chris Morris hadn’t played a single game post IPL 2020 and many critics believed he won’t be fetching a great price in the auctions. But to everyone’s surprise Morris not just went for big money but also ended up becoming the most expensive Glenn Maxwell and Chris Morris player ever bought in the auctions. 4 teams went for Morris which raised his stakes even more. It was Rajasthan Royals who eventually ended up buying him for a whopping INR 16.25 crores.
