Leader Who Led The Side With Grit, Passion & Determination: BCCI Thanks Kohli

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has praised Virat Kohli’s performance as India’s ODI captain. The board also revealed in recent development that the Indian selectors have picked Rohit Sharma as Team India’s next One-Day International (ODI) captain, succeeding Kohli. The latter has already stated that he will step down as India’s T20I captain following the T20 World Cup in 2021.

Meanwhile, with Sharma taking over in the white-ball version, Kohli will only captain the side in Tests. In 2017, he took over as captain of the white-ball cricket team from MS Dhoni. The daring batsman propelled India through 65 victories and 27 defeats in 95 One-Day Internationals (ODIs). It should be mentioned that he concluded his ODI captaincy with an amazing victory average of 70.43.

The batsman is recognized for providing a lot of enthusiasm and intensity to the field and stood strong in crucial times. Despite the fact that India did not win the ICC Trophy during his term, Kohli led the team to 15 bilateral series victories out of 18 played during his stint. As a result, the BCCI took to its official Twitter page to honor Kohli for his tenure as India’s ODI captain.

“A leader who led the side with grit, passion & determination. 🇮🇳🔝 Thank you Captain @imVkohli !👏👏 #TeamIndia,” the tweet read.

President of the BCCI Sourav Ganguly spoke out on the splitting leadership conversation on Thursday, December 9. He reasoned that the committee were opposed to having two captains in two white-ball forms, which made the decision.

“We had requested Virat not to step down as T20I captain but he didn’t want to continue as captain. So, the selectors felt that they cannot have two white-ball captains in two white-ball formats. That’s too much of leadership. I don’t know (about confusion) but that’s what they (selectors) felt. That’s how this conclusion was arrived at – that let Rohit captain in white-ball and let Virat be the red-ball skipper,” Sourav Ganguly said.
