Lanka Premier League 2021 Has Been Postponed

Sri Lanka Cricket Board has officially postponed the Lanka Premier League to an indefinite period. According to sources, the tournament will be played in late November – December. Let’s Look at  Lanka Premier League 2021 Postponed.

The 2nd edition of Lanka Premier League was supposed to start on July 30th, 2021, but due to other cricket tournaments and series, LPL had to be postponed.

Director of LPL Mr. Ravin Wickramaratne has officially announced that – “Kashmir Premier League (set to run from August 6 to 17), the CPL (which requires players to be free from August 12), the ECB’s The Hundred (which runs from July 21 to August 21), and another possible international series involving Bangladesh, have forced the LPL tournament organizers to rethink their timing”.

1st edition of LPL had featured Pakistan players, but the franchises were unable to field with 4 foreign players. West Indies and Pakistan player’s unavailability play a crucial role in conducting the tournament because these are the only 2 nations that actively participate in this tournament.

LPL management has officially terminated two of the five teams which were a part of last year. Dambulla Viiking and Colombo Kings are the two teams that were removed from the tournament.

Even the 3rd franchise Jaffna Stallions are running on the sword – at any moment LPL might terminate them if they don’t agree to the policies given by the organizers. Jaffna Stallions have a serious issue with their client who failed to submit their KYC and other details which were supposed to submit in order to be vetted by the ICC.

Stallions are yet to make payments to the league and they are denying to pay unless and until they get complete clarity on the 2nd edition schedule – And this particular franchise has won the inaugural edition of LPL.

According to few sources, LPL would be played soon after T20 World Cup, which during November-December. So, let’s wait and see what the organizers are planning.
